A People Watching Classic

The Classic is the Kentucky Derby meets the America’s Cup meets Wimbeldon meets The Hunger Games. If your extra-large sunhat has been sitting in the closet since Coachella, it’s time to break it out. Join the parade of elaborate hats, colorful outfits, and Botox. If you’re lucky you’ll spot someone wearing a creation from the Marders garden center, where the company’s creative team makes chapeaux that are like Rose Bowl parade floats for your head

The Classic is a mini-city — shopping, food, stables, unique and fascinating horse services (blacksmiths and farriers) — on 60 acres north of Bridgehampton dedicated to the luxurious equestrian lifestyle. Need a yacht? Check. A Birkin? Check

Classic Benz break down? Pick up a new E-Class between events. Not into the shopping? Maybe go for a pony ride or watch a blacksmith at work. And, of course, there are the ponies and the breathtaking show-jumping events in the Grand Prix and Hunter Jumper rings. Concession stands serve food from all over the world

The classic runs from August 28 to September 4 in Bridgehampton, at 240 Snake Hollow Road. General admission is $10 for 6 years and up or $20 per carload. There’s free general admission on Monday

Senior citizens attend free from Tuesday through Thursday, and kids attend for free on Saturdayhamptonclassic.com
